Alvarion gets FCC authorisation for 3.65 GHz

MOUNTAIN VIEW (WiMAX Day). WiMAX solutions provider Alvarion Ltd announced today that its BreezeMax 3650 platform, employing IEEE 802.16e standards, has received authorisation from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and is now commercially available. The base stations and CPEs in the platform work specifically with 3.65 GHz frequencies in America, and required Federal approval for commercial use. Amongst the first customers of this approved equipment is the US operator Towerstream. “Towerstream’s business model is built around WiMAX to serve high value commercial customers in major urban markets around the country,” said Jeff Thompson, CEO of Towerstream, in a press release. The 3.65 GHz frequency band in America was recently allocated for use with WiMAX, and Alvarion already has a significant portfolio of products engineered for use in this 3.5 GHz frequency.
