NextWave acquires WebSky Argentina

BUENOS AIRES (WiMAX Day). NextWave Wireless has acquired WebSky Argentina whose assets include  telecommunications licenses and an aggregate of 42 MHz spectrum in the 2.5 GHz band covering the Buenos Aires metro region and an area of 180 kilometers surrounding the city. The acquisition is pending final approval of the regulatory authorities in Argentina.

NextWave’s business is the development of next generation wireless broadband products and technologies. The company is unique in that it owns spectrum in many countries, however it is not network operator. According to a spokesman for NextWave, the transaction is intended to support customers in Argentina who require spectrum necessary to implement NextWave’s broadband technology. This strategy is consistent with other spectrum acquisitions that NextWave has made.
